Look Out!

"... but let us watch and be sober."
1 Thessalonians 5:6

I was playing paintball with the guys from the Academy not long ago and I was thinking that I had better watch out or I was going to be the first person shot, again! It is important to concentrate, watch, listen, and hide yourself from your opponents if you desire any success in this game. By the way, if you get shot, it really doesn’t hurt, other than your ego.

The Bible warns us to be sober and vigilant because the devil is taking “pot-shots” at us, seeking to “ambush us” around every corner. He is diligently seeking to destroy us. He is working hard and he’s doing his best. He’s no match for God, but he can give us trouble if we’re not careful. 1 Peter 5:8 states, "Be sober, be vigilant, because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour." Remember this is not fun and games like paintball. Satan really means to harm us. Sometimes the temptation is an up-front, all-out assault, but other times it is a subtle attack that we don’t see coming and we don’t notice anything until it’s too late. We are to be sentries, on the lookout, on guard as Christians because the devil wants to win at any cost. He isn’t going to have any sympathy towards you. He wants to tear you up and destroy you. "...Walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise" as you navigate your way through the world this week.
