An Anchor in the Time of Storm

"Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and forever."
Hebrews 13:8

We live in a world that is ever changing and changing at a rapid pace. Technology changes so rapidly that as soon as you purchase a high tech item it already seems to be obsolete. There is also a great deal of instability in our present world. The Global Economy is ever fluctuating and the fear of collapse is ever looming. These rapid changes and signs of instability have produced many ill effects in our society. The world has sought to meet the needs of mankind through various efforts: social programs, cultural reforms, financial bailouts, and even so called “faith-based” initiatives. These attempts have generated little and no lasting effects.

As a child of God, we know that there is afforded to us stability in the midst of an unstable society. Hebrews 13:8 tells us that our stability is anchored in the unchanging person of Jesus Christ. He has always been and will always be the same. In Him we find a rock and a fortress to which we can run. (2 Samuel 22:2) Therefore, we should in the midst of this instability pray as David prayed "lead me to the rock that is higher than I. (Psalm 62:2) Yesterday, today and every day hereafter Jesus will always be the same. Here is a truth to which we can anchor our souls in the midst of the turbulent waters of this world.
