Can God Use You?

"For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called:
But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;
And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are:
That no flesh should glory in his presence.
But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:
That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord."
1 Corinthians 1:26-31

Some Christians think that they can be of little service to God because of their humble family background or lack of education. But verse 26 teaches that God does not call many from among the worldly wise, or from those who have attained high public office, or from those of high social status. Verses 27 and 28 teach that God can and does use people who do not have university degrees, people in poor health, and those whom society considers worthless.

When God called Gideon to be a judge over the nation of Israel, Gideon initially responded, "my family is poor in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father’s house"(Judges 6:15).

When the Israelites persisted in their demand for a king, God directed their choice of Saul who protested, "Am not I a Benjamite, of the smallest of the tribes of Israel? and my family the least of all the families of the tribe of Benjamin?" (1 Samuel 9:21).

Christian, can God use you? Absolutely! God is not looking for those who would have any reason to be proud or to think highly of themselves (1 Corinthians 1:29). The Lord is seeking born-again believers who are willing and available to serve Him and to bring glory to Him (1 Corinthians 1:31).
