Just A Matter Of Time
“Where is the promise of his (Christ’s) coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation... The Lord is not slack concerning his promise...”
2 Peter 3:4, 9a
Many years ago, I remember getting off one of the school buses that First Baptist owned and operated for Sunday School when I was a teen. As I descended the steps of the bus, a lady in the church greeted me with a comment to the effect that it was just going to be a matter of time and “you will be bald like your Dad.” Even though I had a full head of hair, it caused me some concern. She was right, she knew what was inevitable. It WAS just a matter of time. I guess I knew this as well, I couldn’t prevent my hair loss, it was going to happen. Anyway, I got married while I was young, and still had some hair in my wedding photos.
It is also simply a matter of time before Jesus returns to this earth. The songwriter states, “Maybe today my Lord will come for me.” It is not a matter of “if” but rather “when” our Lord is returning. Jesus Christ IS coming just like He said He would. The trumpet will sound, we shall be changed and made incorruptible in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye. That is a promise that we can hold on to, it should put a smile on our faces as we look forward to “the glorious appearing of our great God and Saviour Jesus Christ.” Forget about those who scoff, they have no hope. But this truly is “our blessed hope” and I remind you that it’s just a matter of time. It may even be today!
