From The Beginning

A New Year always brings to mind a fresh new start or the beginning of something special. It reminds me of when I first asked Jesus into my heart, or as the Bible defines it, I was “saved”. However, it doesn’t take a New Year, or newly being saved, to start afresh. It may be that we have fallen away from the Lord, and need to draw close to Him again, no matter what time of year it is.

The Bible says: “As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:” 1 Peter 2:2 When we were newly saved we wanted to learn as much as we could about the Lord, read His Word, and pray to Him. As a new Christian our desire was to draw close to Him and commune with Him. How did we do that? Have we forgotten how to commune with God?

We were taught that when we pray daily we should ask God to forgive us of any sins we have committed that day... “Dear Heavenly Father, please cleanse me from my sins, cleanse me and make me clean and pure within.” We should always desire to keep a short account with God.

We were taught that when we pray we should always thank the Lord and praise Him... “Dear Lord, thank you for saving me,.. thank you for the health and strength you bless me with each and every day,... I praise you and thank you for always supplying my every need.”

We were taught that before we read God’s Word we should always ask the Holy Spirit to teach us from God’s Word... “Dear Lord, I pray that you will guide and direct as I read your Word, and I pray that the Holy Spirit will teach me what you want me to learn from your Word this day.”

No matter what day of the year it is, let’s start “From the Beginning”. Put God first in your day, first in your heart, first in your life. Read your Bible and pray every day. “Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you...” James 4:8a
