Time To Work Out

"Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure."
Philippians 2:12-13

During the Christmas holidays, the tendency to overeat is commonplace. As a result of this, one of the most popular New Year’s resolutions is to go on a diet, lose weight, and exercise more frequently so that we shed those unwanted pounds and inches. But it is fruitless if we do not have a plan and then put the plan to work. Deep down, we know it is better for us to get out of bed or get off the couch and go exercise, but is that ever hard! It is very easy to lie around and feel quite contented instead of working out and reaching a higher point of strength and fitness.

So many of us are struggling in this same way spiritually, we are quite content with where we are spiritually. After all, we are better than the average Christian. Is it really necessary for us to leave the comfort and enjoyment that our life offers us now and say, it is time to work out spiritually and carry my salvation a little farther down the line of spiritual living, to reach higher ground and greater spiritual strength and maturity. Yes, it is time, resolve to grow spiritually in 2010. The training may be painful at times, but it is more than worth the sacrifice and effort. Romans 12:1 reminds us that presenting our bodies as a sacrifice to God is only our reasonable service. Get serious about your spiritual development this year.
