The Legacy Left Behind or the Legacy Lost
“The memory of the just is blessed: but the name of the wicked shall rot.” Proverbs 10:7
Last week’s news has once again reminded us of the evil that men can do and that there are names that will be remembered throughout time. Both the truly great and good and the infamous are rarely forgotten. Some names bring healing and comfort and some bring repulsion and disgust. When we consider the lovely name of Jesus, Isaiah 9:6 states that “ ... his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.” We love and magnify this precious name, which will continue to be the sweetest name ever heard throughout eternity. He is our Great Physician, the healer of every heart that comes to Him.
But the battle is raging today, Satan seeks to take young and weak Christians and sift them as wheat, to make shipwreck of their lives. This is why it is so important to train up children in the ways of the Lord while they are young. The majority of Christian young people, according to surveys, want to be a rock, Hollywood or athletic star, choose secular music over Christian music, have experimented with drugs, immorality and alcohol, and consider that their life right now is not acceptable to God. True success is found when a man’s grandchildren continue in the faith. Pastor Bateman has challenged us to be true to a Biblical vision that will continue to be faithful to the Word of God to ensure that First Baptist Church is still standing on the Solid Rock, Jesus Christ, as long as our Saviour delays His coming. The importance of adhering to the teachings found only in the Word of God can never be underestimated. “To the end he may stablish your hearts unblameable in holiness before God, even our Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ...” I Thessalonians 3:13
