The Pleasure for Treasure

Luke 12:13-21

“So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.”  Luke 12:21

In this portion of scripture, we see the Lord sharing a story of a rich man who thought he had it all. Jesus shares some crucial advice for us in this passage.

First of all, we see the Lord warning us that we can never and will never be satisfied with the things of this world.  This is the great mistake people are making in today’s world, the bigger the better.  Did you know that no abundance of things will satisfy your heart? The fight for success and the top is the drive of our society.

The Lord goes on in this parable showing how success may lead men to do wrong things. The rich man becomes overwhelmed by success.  It outgrows his calculations, his barns are too small.  He becomes a man who is worried senseless, and becomes miserable because of his earthly riches.  After all his hard work for his riches, the man only wants rest.  This man’s idea was to win rest by wealth.  The rich man tried to get all his riches to cover up his real need, that need is Jesus.  Wanting more and more things in this world is a terrible mistake, and you are doomed to disappointment.

If the young man in this parable had chosen contentment rather than riches, he would have been at peace at once.  This is how Jesus deals with us; He gives us a present rest from sin, from worry and from any kind of care.  He makes us rich in the sight of God.  Friend invest in a real treasure that will last for eternity, that treasure is Jesus!
