A Sick Man's Faith
Mark 2
“But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins.” In Mark chapter 2 we read that Jesus has come to the town of Capernaum and begins teaching a crowd of people in a home. However, that was all interrupted when the roof of the home was taken off and a lame man was lowered down by four friends, right to the feet of Jesus.
First of all, I want us to notice the friends’ helpfulness. The four men had a desire to see their sick friend helped by the greatest physician who ever lived. The four men were willing to break up a stranger’s roof and completely humiliate themselves for the sake of their friend. As we go about our busy lives, do we stop and take notice of our friends’ needs? Are we caring about them? Would we be willing to sacrifice for them?
Secondly, we see the sick man’s faith. We read here in chapter 2 that there is no doubt in the lame man’s mind that he is going to be healed. “When Jesus saw their faith, he said unto the sick of the palsy, Son, thy sins be forgiven thee.” Mark 2:5 What kind of faith do we have today? When we pray do we really believe God is going to answer our prayers?
Lastly, Jesus proves His power as God once again. “I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy bed, and go thy way into thine house.” Mark 2:11 The Scribes rebuked Jesus for doing this, but Jesus shows them He is really God, and in the end the people rejoice and glorify the name of Jesus.
